Thomas Roberson

Tom Roberson is the Manager for Global Security Operations on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Global Security Team. Tom is accountable for the organization’s international security efforts, working with internal and external partners at the international, national and local levels to create a safe and secure environment for the foundation’s people and assets throughout the world. Tom has more than 20 years of management experience in security operations, criminal investigations and intelligence, and executive protection, in both the private and public sectors.

Since joining the foundation in 2008, he played a key role in establishing the workplace threat management, international business continuity and crisis management, and security awareness programs, as well as led the formation of the foundation’s Duty of Care program. Prior to joining the foundation, Tom retired from the U.S. Army’s Criminal Investigation Division, as a Chief Warrant Officer Four. He also served as both a Police Officer and K-9 Handler for the Raytown Missouri Police Department.

Tom served as the Co-Chair of the Africa Regional Council and was a founding member of the Steering Committee of the International Development Working Group, both of the Overseas Security Advisory Council, U.S. Department of State.
