Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) within aid agencies have been posing serious threats to the safety and security of aid workers, which in turn is restricting program continuity and affecting the image of organisations themselves. Accidents and breakdowns are not only costly but can also severely hinder ongoing operations and negatively impact organisational resources.

Given the unsafe environment in which aid agencies are operating, the RedR UK Pakistan Programme offers a 3-4ay course for drivers and fleet managers. The course is run in a safe track environment where the participants can get to know their own personal limits and those of their vehicle. Focussing on handling critical situations and incidents, participants will have the opportunity to determine their capacities as a security driver.

The module will be run as a three-day intensive workshop involving a variety of hands-on activities such as practical on-site simulations, mock exercises, group activities, presentations, and brainstorming.

What does the workshop cover?

  • Travel and transport security
  • Working and surviving  in hostile environments
  • Vehicles,  motor systems and technology
  • Basic driving  techniques
  • Convoy driving
  • Check point drills
  • Avoidance manoeuvres
  • Vehicle ambush manoeuvres
  • Driving rules on high ways
  • Basic first aid related to RTA

By the end of the module the participants will be able to:

  • Develop good procedures
  • Understand their own capabilities as well as their vehicle’s
  • Understand the essentials of operating in a complex and dangerous environment
  • Demonstrate basics pre-planning and vehicle maintenance
  • Undertake route planning of daily journeys and field trips
