Women often face very unique risks when working or socializing at home and abroad. Statistics indicate that one in six women are sexually assaulted during their life-time, and cultural and legal factors can exacerbate the challenges women face, even when they are the victims of a crime. Harassment, intimidation and physical or psychological assaults may be perpetrated by strangers, as well as family members, friends or work colleagues. When travelling away from home or the office, especially in areas where legal and cultural differences are present, then the risks can significantly increase. The post-care treatment of victims is also critical, both in terms of the victim understanding what help they might need to call upon, as well as how their own organization, as well as external stakeholders, can best support them. RSM supports over 350 humanitarian aid and development organizations to strengthen gender safety and security strategies. We help build knowledge, skill and confidence to empower women to work and socialize safely and securely. We also provide proven strategies to respond to an emergency situation, whether it is verbal harassment, intimidation, or an assault. Our experience is drawn from world leading experts on gender safety and security, coupled with our long standing relationship in supporting the sector. This, blended with real-life experience in over 75 countries, ensures that the course is placed into a meaningful context, bringing about real and positive change to personal confidence levels and the individual’s ability to control their own risks, and react to a threat. Our program not only helps women to build personal knowledge and skill, it also develops organizational resilience as part of a risk-based and proportionate duty of care program. We support organizations such as Oxfam, Jhpiego, Save the Children and many others with their gender safety and security strategy. The half day course includes the principles of personal safety and security for women, scenario based exercises on how to respond to a likely threat, as well as practical self-defense measures to break free from and to disable an attacker, allowing women to escape to safety.
COST: $385 and includes breakfast, lunch, coffee/snacks and certifications.
